I have just gotten my 57 Chevy back after a long and costly restoration. No, it is not stock.
I am not happy with the way the hood closes and the guys told me over and over again that that's just the way it is. I have played with it some now that it is in my garage and I can press the hood into a better position after closing it. I think the original hinges are just sloppy. The drivers side hinge is the most sloppy, but neither is great. When I asked about replacing the hinge, they told me that the newer ones wouldn't be any better.
I did a quick google search and found many billet hinges that not only look nice, but have gas struts and sealed bearings. They are very expensive compared to stock replacements ($600+ per pair), but they do look good.
My Question for the forum:
Has anyone out there actually installed billet hood hinges on their tri-five pickup?
If so:
How do you like them?
Worth the money?
Who made them?
Thanks,
Rick
