Ok long story short, I was able to purchase my great uncles 73 chevy he had custom ordered; after he had passed. Last year I was driving it a little when it wouldn't shift out of first gear. I found 6 gear teeth in the transmission pan when I thought it needed just a filter and fluid change. I am generally a mechanically inclined person. But, I've never have attempted any transmission work before. I will be attempting to rebuild this automatic TH400 are there any tips key things I should look out for? I know to keep it surgically clean inside and in the work space and do not scratch any of the inside mainly the labyrinth. It seems like I could pull it off. But as I said its a family piece now & is very sentimental and I would love to keep it as original as my great uncle had it when he used to drive it around. Is there any thing that I have over looked that I need to know?

Most transmission shops will rebuild a TH400 so cheaply it's hardly worth tackling yourself. It's easy to do yourself but also easy to screw it up yourself.
