I am the third owner of a '57 3100, the second was my grandfather who bought it in 1963.
I had hoped to keep the truck original but my recent engine rebuild did not go well - looking at options for a replacement engine - factory new, factory rebuild, etc -
Any thoughts or experience with this?
Thanks -

most came with the inline 6 but you can put a V8, there was the option for the 265(I believe) V8..I hear alot of people putting in a 350 as well, if you want to go that route. Check the parent site out for the specs, antiquechevytrucks.com

IN 1957 an inline 235 ci 6cylinder and a 283 ci v-8 were the two options. 265's were only used in 55-56. 283's were used uuntil the early 60's. A later model 350 ci is the same block and will bolt right in. The bell housing rear mount and engine front mounts were original. Later they went to engine side mounts and transmission rear mounts, so you have to watch changing all that.
