Hi - my name is Barry from Glasgow, Scotland and I joined today. I have a 58 Apache 235 ci with column change. The Stovebolt has had a new intake manifold with two Rochesters added. It is running too rich but if I turn down the mixture it won't run at all. It's only doing about 12 mpg, and the plugs are always sooty. It starts and runs fine, but I assume the non-original carbs are not compatible for some reason. Any ideas?

You might need to place spacers under the rochesters and make sure there is no air leakage.
