A friend at work noticed that i had one dim and one bright tail light on my truck. I changed bulbs and no difference. I checked ground and that seems good. Wiring looks good all the way through. A Chevy truck parts guy at the swap meet told me to replace pigtails that connect to housing so i did. The parts places didnt have pigtails for a 66' but they said 57' was the same, and it looks the same so i spliced those in. Now i have no lights brake lights or signals to the rear. Could it be the housings themselves? I am really confused now.

Sounds like a ground problem. Try a short wire to the socket and ground to a good spot and see if they come on. I had a similar problem with my 66 Suburban when one was brighter than the other and it was a ground problem. Good luck.
